Will I see any bats on the tour? Bats only live around the natural entrance so unless you take the Lantern Entrance tour you will not see any bats. You may not see any there, either as bats can crawl into some pretty tight crevices.

How do I know if I can fit in a space 8 1/2 inches high before I make a reservation for the Spelunking Tour? Go to a doorway and measure 8 1/2 inches up from the floor. Stretch a string across the doorway at this height. Have a friend watch you crawl under this string. If you can fit under the string without pulling it off, you can fit through the block.

Will I need a jacket? Jewel Cave is 49 degrees year round. You will need a light jacket year round. The gift shop sells sweat shirts if you forget to bring one.

What kind of shoes do I need? Sneakers or hiking boots are recommended on the tours. Remember you will be walking up and down over 700 stairs on the Scenic Tour, and duck walking over unimproved trails on the Lantern Tour. The constant humidity makes the floors a little slick, though the Scenic Tour has metal grates. You will need something comfortable, non skid, and preferably not open toed. Sandals are not recommended.
